Pros

Allowed me to get a wide spectrum of experiences. Worked with great people who have a "we're in this together" attitude as we all were facing the same frustrations.

Cons

A humiliating, and political performance review process. Your review was discussed behind doors by managers from other store locations that do not work with you, therefore, you were at the mercy of individuals who have no real idea about your contributions. If you are at a "low volume" store, you may as well just figure that what you earn is what you will earn for the rest of your career. I had nearly thirty years experience, did everything I was asked, met every deadline, never missed work, met, and exceeded "shrink" goals, and was told that I couldn't get a raise, even though, they hired new members of management "right off the street", with much less experience, and knowledge, and paid them more than I was making.

Going out of business

Pros

Not really many great things to say, but I did like getting a paycheck...

Cons

So much STRESS. This company is going out of business because they spend everything on jets for CEO's and bonus for their corporate employees, but dirt and stress for the front lines people. Their cashiers get treated like garbage. They will only pay new employees min wage if you are a cashier, and so much is expected of you. They have no budget to hire employees because they spend too much money on too much product in the store. There is never enough room for all the crap they have on the floor. This company will not be around for long, because they can not figure out how to treat people. GET A CLUE, your front lines are the face of your company, top level management should get paid way less then they do, spend the money on the front lines not the 2 year CEO's that sit around and do nothing but flush company money down the drain on the way to their next job, because who wants to work for Kmart- ME?? HELL NO!

Pros

I'm always doing something different when I go into work. I have worked several different areas over the course of a year. So far, I have learned footwear, front checkouts, jewelry, service desk, layaway, online orders, and softlines. The training I received from Kmart I feel has given me a good background for many jobs in the future. I also get any days off I want and my manager is lenient on letting me have days off for the schedules already posted. The people are all friendly and we have a great time at work. All of my managers are friendly and easy-going people. The breaks and lunch breaks are also generous.

Cons

There are no raises ... at least that's what I was told. Min. wage is what I get. But it is my first job so I don't think it is that big of a deal. We do not have many employees and I feel that we always have A LOT of work to do. I have come into work before and have had to cover the shoe department and the whole softlines department by myself for 4 hours. At that point you can't feel productive because there are always strays and returns and the fitting room and freight to put out. We are overworked but payed min. wage still. Ad Signs are always screwed up...
