Pros

Kmart served as my base for my current employer. Kmart allowed me to learn what the basics of Loss Prevention. I loved the Assocaites that I worked with, I was a Loss Prevention Manager and got along with the floor associates better than other managers. The long term associates really cared even though that they aren't getting any support. Store Manager has absolutely no clue on how to delegate and communicate with her management team and floor associates. She should retire ASAP.

Cons

Didn't have a raise in over four years before I left. We met or exceeded our shrink goal in 3 of those years. Our three year average was well below the goal level. Never saw one penny or got a good job high five. LP department met and exceeded all metric goals and LP associates got a minimal 10 cent raise tops. There is no communication within the company. That goes for Store management all the way up to Vice Presidents. Don't even get me started with them, I wasted days of my life in town hall meetings hearing all the bs that came from Hoffman Estates. It was a joke. Policies are not followed you have no support from the district level. I started as a hourly overnight LP Associate and worked my way up to manager in about 2-2 1/2 years. Was a manager for 4 years. Seven years that I can't get back, but it makes me appreciate the company that I work for now so muc more.

Pros

They hire almost anyone, they are willing to work around a school schedule if going to highschool/college, you get a 20% discount on apparrel and 10% on anything else...can also be used at Sears or Landsend and if you desparetly need a job to help pay your bills!

Cons

They keep eliminating certain positions resulting in everyone else picking up their work, they throw you into departments such as jewelry or electronics when you have no training to be able to adequetly help customers, they put a schedule up and then change it several days after you wrote it down and expect you to know it, due to employees either quitting or calling in on a regular basis they ask you frequently to either stay later, come in early, or work on your day(s) off. It seems like the superiors don't really care if you or your kids are sick, you're expected to work regardless. The registers always freeze, all equipment in the store is severely outdated...I had never even used or seen some of their ancient equipment anywhere else I've worked. Since the equipment is outdated and never reliable, it's almost impossible to get simple tasks done yet it's our fault that we can't figure it out. They push people to get credit cards and a shop your way rewards card just so the customer can get angry because they don't understand it even after you explain it to them and, so they can anger the customer off even more with 5000 survey questions on the pinpad. People aren't going to apply for a credit card unless they want to so quit pushing cashiers so hard when it's not their fault. I'd like to see a manager do a 6 hour shift on the register and get 4 credit card apps!
