They're sinking fast, so they put a lot of pressure on employees to push the loyalty card, credit card, and extended warranties, usually at the expense of customer service. Today, a good employee pushes the customer hard at checkout on all of these things and usually requires them to speak their phone number out loud every time they want a simple candy bar. Beyond being an invasion of privacy, it slows the lines to a crawl and makes the customer experience terrible. So, if you don't like invading others privacy and pestering them with questions long after they've said "no", then avoid Kmart. If you like helping customers find what they need and not betray their trust, avoid Kmart. If you want to have more opportunities than working 60+ hours a week in management, avoid Kmart.

This was my title, but what I actually did was work the toy, shoe, electronic, layaway and DYI departments. These departments are all on opposite ends of the store. I also took care of procing and labeling. This was on an every day basis. I quit because one of my managers punished me by making me clean the shoe department for an entire day because I wasn't able to do it before. The reason I wasn't able to do it was because I was working all these departments and got called to help a customer. Do not work at this store. I worked my ass off here for years and never even got a penny for a raise. You get zero benefits, and absolutely no paid vacations.
