Pros

Salary was good and rapid career development was offered for those who fitted the mould.

Cons

J&J prides itself on its Credo (essentially a mission statement) and they use it to promote the idea of an ethical organisation that is centred around the employee. However it is totally disregarded by the management on a day to day basis and discussion or creativity is actively discouraged. Anybody questioning the status quo is shown the door. Just as leaders of a personality cult use mind games to control their minions, the J&J senior management would deny departmental meetings ever took place and those who dared to question any unethical action were accused of not following the Credo!

A Company in Transition

Pros

Legacy of Excellence - Having been with the company for many years, I can attest to its once vibrant and inspiring culture. It was a place where employees felt valued and where the mission to positively impact humanity was more than just the Credo on the wall. Strong Compensation and Benefits - While the culture has shifted, the company still offers competitive pay.

Cons

Cultural Decline - The divestiture of the consumer division marked a turning point, leading to a shift away from core values. What was once a mission-driven organization is now singularly focused on financial outcomes, often at the expense of employee morale and purpose. Identity Crisis - The company is struggling to redefine itself post-divestiture. This lack of a clear direction has resulted in conflicting priorities and a sense of instability across teams. Eroding Trust - Transparency and open communication, once hallmarks of the culture, have diminished. Employees are now left in the dark about decisions that significantly impact their roles and futures. Loss of Vision - The cultural decline has alienated employees who were drawn to J&J for its Credo, which now seems to be just decorations on the wall.

Pros

- Decent work/life balance; remote work; family focus; vacation/summer Fridays and benefits - Some good coworkers that have the best interest of the product and customers in mind

Cons

- Toxic leadership especially at Auris. There are teams with significant attrition and it has been made clear that leadership is the problem. Despite multiple complaints from employees leaving to HR; leadership still remains. This goes against J&J’s claim as being a credo based company. - Groups that have consistently demonstrated they are difficult to work with and don’t achieve business goals and sometimes actively block them from getting achieved are still in place. - Leadership team is inexperienced leading to ill informed strategy. Little focus and resources on fixing problems customers have been complaining about to make the basic product do what it needs to. - No solid long term vision to grow market share or even retain business - endless months spent on ‘Discovery’ only to find out that they’re behind the competition. - Heavy handed R&D teams that make poor design choices; does little to understand customers or listen to input from customer facing teams leading to a product customers are increasingly frustrated with. - extremely poor decisions leading to a significant delay in the surgical robotic platform. - continuous loss of great talent due to the above problems. It’s clear that the current strategy is not working and there is no way to surpass let alone catch up to competition.
