Pros

you get paid nothing else

Cons

As a legacy SKM staff, I was expecting a much more from the acquisition. Instead the sole focus for the company is the bottom line and essentially a number to meet utilisation targets. You position is not safe even if you meet the allocated target as some people in my office have found out. Don't believe the people are our greatest asset slogan. Management has been reduced to bean counters with a culture of fear not empowerment. I could go on, but compared to SKM, Jacobs does not look after its people and you are virtually on your own to find work. The inside/outside sales process does not work and provides non billable staff credit for projects operations would have won through established relationships. Professional development focus on 1 -10 years experience. Little training was offered for 20+ years.

Pros

My hourly pay rate, the ability to work from home

Cons

On February 5, 2013 I wrote a lengthy review about my experience working at Jacobs. It's been over a year and things have gotten even worse. Our group has been reduced from 8 employees to 3 employees due to lack of work. I recently found out that my resume is being used to win projects but once the work starts, those closest to the project take the work for themselves so they can stay billable. My hours have been reduced to around 15 a week so I no longer receive any benefits (it was the only way to avoid being laid off) . Yes, I am looking for a new job but as many of you know, the competition is fierce and I can't relocate. I have been taking continuing education courses on my own time and my own dime since I can't get approved for training reimbursement. And just so you don't think the problem is ME rather than Jacobs, my client of 5 years has written a letter of recommendation for me since he knows that budget cuts have reduced my hours and forced me to look for work elsewhere.

Pros

Earned Days Off. Not much more than that.

Cons

Emphasis is on pushing work into India and taking the work away from local staff. The Canadian offices are littered with US expats which creates a sense of entitlement from the expats. This is a US company pretending to be a Canadian company. Training and career development is non-existent. Poor office morale.
