Pros

Lots of smart women SVPs - some of the best I've ever worked with

Cons

Two years ago there were 6 women SVPs who worked for the head of the Ipsos U.S. technology/media group and 5 male SVPs. They worked in Ipsos offices in NYC, LA, SF, and Seattle. ALL of these women SVPs have left Ipsos. They were some of the most talented and experienced women in research. They're now at clients (and not hiring Ipsos to do their market research) or they're working for Ipsos competitors. Two of the male SVPs also left. New boss hired from the outside...was a male (of course). When he came in, the head of ASI in the U.S. (Ipsos copy testing group) who was also a woman left. She went on to a better job at another research firm.

We agree with you that having great women in leadership positions makes a company stronger! But we think you should get your story right before posting on Glassdoor. Here are the facts: Half the 12 members of the leadership team of Ipsos Connect in the US are women, and a total of 32 women in that unit hold the title of VP or above. That means that women make up more than 40% of the management of that unit. Why didn’t you raise the issues you raised on Glassdoor with HR here? If you had, you wouldn’t have found the conversation difficult. The HR heads for Ipsos Connect in the US and for Ipsos overall in North America are women, and both are deeply committed to diversity. In addition, the CFO for Ipsos in North America is a woman, and four of our largest offices (Chicago, New York, Cincinnati, and Los Angeles) are led by women. Last point. During the period you referred to, we were merging two divisions (advertising research and media research) to form Ipsos Connect. One division was led by a woman and the other by a man. We considered both, but decided to hire from the outside for a new leader with more complete credentials to lead the new entity. We expected to lose some people of both genders in the transition, but we were fortunate to retain most of our talent. We wish you the best in your career.

Pros

Ipsos is a good workplace for an unchallenging job where you will be able to coast 90% of the time, a consensus among several employees I have worked with.

Cons

Ipsos is a poorly run, mismanaged organization with seemingly no long-term future plan, which is incredibly worrisome given that survey research, Ipsos' bread and butter, is not a growth industry. Staff positions at Ipsos are a rotating door, and the HR department is practically nonexistent and perpetually incompetent, Ipsos does not create a healthy work environment - employees are unhappy, the work setting is not a positive atmosphere, and employees have little desire to socialize with eachother. The business has little-to-no investment in employee growth or development, and most opportunities for growth will come from employee departures. The company has, as a whole, diminished investment in important internal services, including offshoring certain key departments, and it's clear that the emphasis at Ipsos is not in quality service or products. Ipsos is also an incredibly bureaucratic organization where key issues can take weeks, or months, to resolve.

Ipsos conducts thorough employee satisfaction surveys continuously across the globe and has a battery of KPI's to monitor and analyze staff turnover and management performance at a granular level. Overall our scores consistently exceed industry norms and actually tend to improve, as Ipsos, which has over 16,000 employees operating in 86 countries, is developing its employee development programs. To your point about off shoring, like any industry leader we do have to make sure we stay ahead of the curve in terms of cost efficiency, so that our investments in new products and services keep increasing year over year while maintaining a good level of competiveness in the marketplace. This means that some production functions can be at times either automated or partly concentrated in lower cost markets. Any industry of a certain scale has the duty to revolve its operating model to remain relevant.
