Good People but bad work culture

Pros

Over all the people working here are good people and are hard working. Great co-workers, good benefits, nice social events

Cons

The work itself, at least for my position, is extremely tedious and bogged down in unnecessary complex processes. In addition to this, in the few years I have been here I have learned very little. I will admit this is partly my fault for not being more proactive about it but at the same time the upper levels are extremely reluctant to give me more responsibility which I can learn from. There seems to be little room for advancement, you are better off leaving for another company tog get a higher position. I can't speak for every department, but in mine it seems that promotions are determined on who the boss's favorites are. I have seen great people leave because of lack of recognition and being overworked. Compensation is also a bit lower than competitors, and raises are non existent or very small.

Pros

Great group of people who really care about their jobs, providing good quality results to the clients, etc. Department I was in had incredible steady/regular communication from senior management (see cons). Group I was in was very relaxed in terms of 'work from home' type of environment, making us all more productive.

Cons

Inconsistency across departments. Some teams were well loved; others were hated and it was a 'fear' society for the workers there (similarly, workload imbalance was crazy for some groups versus others). Reviews should also include protected peer reviews (there are some managers/VP's there who really have no business overseeing people). Finally, inconsistency in letting some employees switch groups and even offer international opportunities and denying other (long term employees) a job change - causing them to have to look outside the company for advancement. (I'd have happily stayed if I could have.)
