Pros

You can usually work with some great people.

Cons

Upper management often seems like they don't know what they want. Rules constantly change. You can be expected to work when you are not scheduled. Schedules are always subject to change. Some workers get away with breaking the rules. You are often expected to do too much in too little time.

Pros

Ingles sells great products and has a variety of unique grocery items. The store I worked at was usually very busy which was good for me as I like to have something to do. Management was friendly and tried to meet my needs when there was a concern.

Cons

The primary issue I had during my employment was scheduling conflicts. I was in school part time and later worked a second job and needed to maintain certain hours to pay the bills. Despite putting my availability into the computer the system, there were major conflicts in my schedule with school and other responsibilities. I told management and for a while they did manually create my schedule in a manner that worked out, but when I needed to cut my hours back after taking a second job the conflicts started again. At that point I chose to leave the company as it simply wasn't worth the stress. I also noticed a couple of store managers one day ogling a scantily dressed customer and making inappropriate comments about her. When teenage cashiers do this they deserve a talking to. For management this is unacceptable. They should know how to behave professionally. Store policies and procedures, along with outdated technology, often made it difficult to serve customers in a timely manner. (note: the store has been renovated since I left so there may be some improvement now in technology)
