Pros

I love the work atmosphere and the people are great. They have fun events and celebrate birthdays. They include the whole company for updates about the upcoming things for ipsy. My favorite pro is the flexibility ipsy offers their employees.

Cons

Growth is incredibly difficult and can be unfair. Tenure doesn't always play in your favor and sometimes when you feel a position will lead to a promotion or more, it falls short and you're left with disappointment. Too many remote agents have split up the ipsyCare team where we can no longer go on off sites and fun stuff like we did before. Management does a lot of talk but so little action.

Pros

- The startup is doing really well, has been profitable for more than 3 years. Subscription base is growing really fast, and the eng team is growing accordingly. - As of now, the eng team is split into 3 sub-teams: apps (site back-end and front-end, mobile development), data (big data, ipsymatch), and "dexai" (payments, core services, shipments, etc.), and engineers of different levels and interests would find interesting projects in all of the teams. The good thing about the team-division is that you're free to switch teams at any time. - The eng team has high quality standards for the software: code reviews, code styles, unit and integration tests. - Engineers are very open to sharing knowledge. We have weekly learning series, where engineers give talks on specific topics. - As the company grows, the team faces new challenges which involve learning new technologies. - Flexible schedule. - Nice office, with good location at San Mateo downtown.

Cons

- No free lunches (only lunch roulette once a week, where employees from different departments are shuffled and arranged into groups)

Pros

The company works remotely now and is very focused on equity and inclusion. Most of the people I've worked with were extremely likable and easy going.

Cons

Everyone is overworked, and the general expectation is that everything can be planned and executed in 50% of the time that things truly take. That results in employees working way more than full-time. Many departments are understaffed and cannot get resources needed, and management is not offering market wages to retain or attract talent. In general, executives make unrealistic plans / commitments and teams are struggling to deliver on too many initiatives that are poorly planned and implemented, which means plans change after significant work has been put in and everyone must revisit the entire process. No one works only 40-hour weeks and no one on my team was able to take vacation or holidays off. The pace and difficulties of working here mean people get burnt out really fast.
