Dwindling benefits, continuing layoffs, mediocre pay

Pros

They've got a gym and cafeteria on-site, and haven't axed the tuition reimbursement program yet. Free coffee (for now).

Cons

To name a few: More layoffs - Another 120 employees were let go this week even though the company forecast seems to be improving. The timing (right before bonus season), and significant amount of money spent on a new logo probably had something to do with it. Infrequent, unsubstantial raises - Only just barely above cost of living increases. New hires from outside the company for the same position consistently make more than people promoted from within. Outdated, specialized software/tools make it difficult to keep skills current, keep boredom at bay.

Pros

They are making the transition to work with more current technology which makes for good resume fodder. The benefits and compensation are good for the area (NV) but not the best. Casual dress code, flexible schedule, clean and modern office / cafeteria.

Cons

There are many more poor performers than people who can think for themselves and do so intelligently. Depending on your group you may be treated as another number rather than an individual.

More Layoffs are coming!

Pros

I love the people I work work with and the job is interesting. Great benefits, on site gym, cafeteria, daycare.

Cons

Constant threat of layoffs and another round is coming before cash sharing. I would not leave a good, stable job to come here. Layoffs happen on a regular basis, but the big ones happen annualy prior to cash sharing. Seems as if long term employees have a target on their backs as management likes to exchange them for younger employees that they can pay a lower wage. The only way to move up is to compromise your values.
