More Politics Than Election Night

Pros

Some very creative and hard working people, unfortunately they soon become disillusioned. 401k recently got a lot better.

Cons

Politics and self-serving senior management. Upper management comes from outside the industry and therefore will never admit they are lacking in that knowledge so keep employing more people from outside the industry. Meanwhile the good guys get annoyed, move and make IGT's competitors even stronger. The non-compete is crazy (and very cruel), but without it I doubt there would be any good guys left at IGT in Nevada. I'm not sure middle management is the problem as many people on Glassdoor do. The real issue is above those guys.

Corporate politics supersized

Pros

There are some great people working at IGT, at interactive we have all the right ideas, some very smart coworkers. Good work life balance here, no crazy hours other than emergencies.

Cons

There is so much political power playing at this company, it is almost impossible to get anything done. Senior management are mostly from other industries and are pretty clueless. The amount of time spent here trying to answer the same questions over and over is unbelievable. The policy of recruiting management from outside the company means career progression is almost nonexistent, if you want a promotion you pretty much have to leave.

Employees as Disposable

Pros

Plenty of jobs in middle-management due to high turnover, usually lots of down-time to study if you are a student and have a permissive supervisor.

Cons

Tiniest mistakes become write-ups and are never forgotten by management. Management is quick to reprove but never praises. Upper management treats those below them as highly disposable and quickly replaced, despite the need for long-term training and familiarization with the systems. Payment is low compared to similar positions, and everyone is expected to want to move into management although the expected overtime and on-call time make management essentially a pay-cut, particularly if you are nightshift.
