      Very good to work for, but sometimes just too big.

      Pros

      It's a large company with lots of talented people - a great place to learn in almost any field in the industry.

      Cons

      The company is too bureocratic. I always had the feeling the IBM is just too large, and the management tries to play always on the safe side, never getting into risky investments, which sometimes means bleeding edge projects and great ideas getting cancelled.

      Pros

      Work/life balance is great simply because many of us work from home.

      Cons

      Salary and band promotions are rare regardless of your performance. There is no budget for outside training (classroom). Entire teams are being laid off and replaced with workers from a lower cost region. That is hardly necessary in order to remain competitive, especially for a company with huge profits. It's interesting that the executives making all the decisions still have their raises, bonuses and jobs.

      Pros

      Excellent place to develop skills. Good internal training programs. Reasonable work/life balance. Great place for a first or second job to develop skills and training, before obtaining competitive compensation elsewhere.

      Cons

      Uncompetitive salary. Poor raises and bonuses even for top performers. Lack of career advancement opportunity, promotions extraordinarily difficult to come by, even for top performers. Middle management has significantly lack of vision. Employees are treated (and referred to as:) interchangeable "resources" rather than individuals. Many employees are average at best..80/20 rule applies
