Pros

Work hours are flexible as long as you can get your work done. The managment understands life and work balance. There are oppurtunities for advancement and that needs you to intiate the process with upper managment. You're encourged to take on site course whenever it's available. If you're lucky you might get your own office but sometimes you might need to share an office with another collegue. There are no cubicle at the SVL location.

Cons

IBM might not work for young professional because there is not a real energetic culture there and no free food there. I thought there would be finanial aid with tuiation help for training course at an educational instituation but I thought the process was diffifcult becuase it needed to a few level up management for approval. Sometimes you're expected to work long hours to get your work done.

Pros

I has mostly good coworkers but I am not impressed with upper management.

Cons

IBM has offshored my positions 3 separate times and now laid off. The benefits are shrinking every year. More people seem more cut throat that in the past because of the way reviews are given so it is harder to get a sense of a good team atmosphere. It is a joke how they do appraisals since they make us write personal business commitments as our goals and we could accomplish all the goals we set forth. But these PBCs are not used in the evaluation. 1st line managers haggle with other 1st line managers over who "ranks" higher so you better hope your manager is close to you and they are better at debating with other managers.

The longer you stay, the less competitive you will be in the outside world when getting used to the IBM way It provides socialist compensation package (could be an upside for some people)
