Pros

Schedule is a shifting 4 days on, 4 days off, 12 hour shifts. The shifting part is three weeks of nights over to three weeks of days. There is a lot to learn in this field. A job with IBA would appeal to anyone who likes to tinker with electronics and mechanics. Someone who also does not get bored doing the same test over and over.

Cons

Documentation and training are difficult to come by. A small company that is based in Belgium. The Belgium thing can be a little weird at times or different, a for instance, wire labeling. I am use to labeling being origin to destination, in Belgium it is lowest number(meaning either origin or destination can come first). Little things like this can trip one up all the time and lead to confusion. Another thing is that if you work something to resolution one time and no one else has, then your the subject matter expert at this company. These are not necessarily bad things but can lead to some serious frustration.

Pros

Can move up if you're good at BS'ing. Don't need to work hard.

Cons

Rotating shifts, poor management based out of Belgium. If they can legally pay you less somehow, they will. Hard work does not pay off. The system experts want to stay system experts so a lot of the deeper knowledge is withheld (purposeful stagnation of your ability to become a better resource for the company). It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Pros

• Your contributions in system engineering helps treat complex cancer patients. • You learn a lot! Electronics, Hardware, Software, Particle Physics, Cooling Systems, Vacuum Systems, etc. • The on-site employees are usually amazing people.

Cons

• The company is no longer promoting from within the organization. • Regional management and HR is all new to the organization, and does not know what they are doing. • Regional management is causing pain to the job, resulting in engineer turn-over. • Company training is horrible. On The Job Training is all that is effective.
