Pros

Large organization with corporate cultural events instilling pride in company brand. Interesting to understand the underlying mechanics of merchandising and overall structure of a market leader. Well furnished, modern office. Tasks were structured with no surprises, assuming you consider that an advantage. Pay was good at the time.

Cons

Extremely small finance department consisting of one group with little horizontal movement. Only way to get promoted is for manager or director to leave. No real way to develop any depth of finance experience or skill. Tasks were standardized with little room for any real value add.

Pros

Home Depot offers really competitive pay when starting out, and are very accomodating with a busy school schedule. I have worked there for 2 years and never once have i been denied time off for any reason. Fun people work here, everyone gets along and is like one giant family. you always feel comfortable when you are at work. They offer tuition reimbursement as well so that definately helps out if youre a student.

Cons

it is hard to get a raise once youre in. They also dont allow any part time management jobs ie head cashier or supervisors and therefore you cannot move up for gain any sort of responsibilities unless you are full time.

Pros

i have worked for home depot for about 10 years on and off and i must say they have a pretty competitive salary for the basic cashier job i do. at least the products are always well marked and there is very seldom a prob lem with prices being missing. if you have a problem there is sometimes someone to help you. i would recommend this company as a good start for cashier experience.

Cons

not that much chance for job improvement. it is difficult to move from being a cashier to working in another depart ment. i can usually get time off from work and there is not usually too much problem getting time off for holidays.
