Pros

Great Pay at Store Manager Level Great training programs Develops one as a leader

Cons

Typical Career is only 10 years. No one ever retires with the Home Depot. They get pushed out in their later 40's. Promotions are not always based on performance. Very political. Being asked to deliver on mutualy exclusive priorities.

Pros

security and stability. very seldem to get laid off unless you are not doing the job. Never need to worry about not getting paid.

Cons

inconsistent management skills and communication. Supervisors/managers says one thing and does another. too many chiefs and not enough indians. never know what to do to excel to more senior level unless you "get friendly" with management team. bottom line, doing a good job is not enough if you want to move up. it may take a long time or the right manager to recognise your ability to help moving you up.

Pros

Overall, good compensation benefits and good starting wages for new and starting workers. Communication from managers to employees is fairly strong but work needs to be improved none the less. Employee morale is overall very good and workers are proud to be working at the store and show motivation towards what they do. Fairness and respect are very effective in the work place and it is in one of the fundamental pillars of the store to have work place equality amongst all employees and people who do get promoted in senior jobs always deserve the merit they receive. Very well rounded training program takes care of all first time employees.

Cons

Possibilities for personal and professional development are limited and advancement possibilities are very low. Although there are some senior positions, they are mainly all occupied by initial workers which have risen in the ranks and therefore the only possible way to one day rise would be for those senior employees to leave. There is also weaker work/life balance and no true promotion of this type of lifestyle to employees. Although some employees are recognized for their good work, a stronger way of communicating successes to employees would result in a yield of better positive results in the long run for the company.
