Pros

Sometimes they let you eat in the speciality restaurants.

Cons

This is not a good company. HAL promotes a toxic working environment, nepotism, bullying, violates MLC 2006 on a regular basis, promotes people on the basis of nationality, doesn't provide training necessary to perform your job, badly organised departments, skewed rank structure, a shoreside team that knows nothing about the maritime industry. Just all round a terrible place to work. I would strongly suggest avoiding HAL at all costs.

Don't do it.

Pros

Decent pay. A glimpse of various tourist destinations. Food is included.

Cons

No department training. There is no organized system for this. And the people who "train" are not trained to train people. And see below... (there is organized training for ship safety but not for the jobs and procedures within the department) Rules and expectations are constantly changing and most were never established to begin with. Management will hold employees to the rules/policies in the handbook, but don't expect them to follow those protocols. They won't. Very political atmosphere. Watch your back. Don't trust anyone. If you are a woman in management, prepare for the worst. You won't get to see much on your travels because you will have far too much to do. You won't have much time to get off the ship. Prepare to bribe people into doing their jobs by purchasing alcoholic drinks for them. What the corporate office wants and what management on the ship wants will often be in conflict. Workdays are 7 days a week, and 14 to 16 hour days are typical, but you won't be able to officially log that many hours because you'll get in trouble for overtime. But you won't get the work done if you don't put in the hours. After passengers end their day, the crew parties. Hard. Every night. And all that goes with that... Be careful. There is a lot of soap opera involving who hooked up with who and all that nonsense. But , hey, some people love it. And then there was Covid... Plenty of news stories on YouTube about how that went.
