Pros

If you don't mind working intolerable hours for lunatics this is the job for you. I'm with Local Edition and am the only college graduate that I know of working for Hertz in this county. If you can upgraded into an ABM position you become a total grunt without a life or possibility of bonus [the managers take 99% of the bonus dollars] but you do learn political coping and how to manage a P&L so the job is not totally worthless.

Cons

I have 8 years with Hertz and I guess my time is up. My district manager told me that I should probably leave as they are trying to turn over new blood for the Orange County [CA] offices. Regardless of your position or seniority, when they want you to leave they begin harrassing you for minute reasons. They will not fire you because they have no cause, but they will force your to quit. Usually this will happen after you hit your 6th anniversary, but in my case its my 8th anniversary. What I cannot believe is that they are so transparent about this. The former district mgr said the same thing to me after I'd been with Hertz for 5 years and now its happening again. My numbers are high, my add on numbers are strong, I rarely miss work, but I guess that my self life is just too much for them.

Pros

You have an opportunity to test drive many different vehicle; Resume looks better just because of the brand. No one understands this industry until they walk- the- walk....which is a long walk to Branch Manager. If you make it from Manager Trainee to Branch Manager a personal car is yours to drive everyday, you never pay for gas.

Cons

You work an average 55-60 hours during peak season , then watch out they cut the hours big time even before the X-mas season. The hourly pay is not substainable & the job is really designed for someone that lives at home with their parents. You will wash alot of cars even in your nice clothes they want you to wear in front of the customer. The Quartly bonus is never consistant, it changes every 2-3 mths & you are subject to driving your gas out to work at another location if that location does not have a manager or more than one employee. Also the programs operates as slow as the hiring process; you cannot advance in one year to Branch Managers especially if your branch is understaffed like most of them are across the USA!!! Hertz officially screwed everyone at the bottom of the food chain, Manager Trainee, Assistant Branch Managers in Michigan did not get the 1st Quarterly bonus due to some Net Promotor Score which just became a new factor in 2012. Unfair work practices from a Global Company, the company was profitable but the wages at the bottom remain unsatisfactory. If the company keeps changes the policies for the quarterly bonus program you are left with just $10.50 & tell me who can pay their monthly expenses on just that alone?

Pros

While working for Hertz I was really given a lot of training which I truly believe will help me throughout the rest of my career. The benefits were good, the pay was alright, and the all of the people I worked with were very competent and friendly. There is room for promotion and assuming you meet your sales quota's and aren't completely stupid, they will recognize it and reward you accordingly.

Cons

This is a sales job though they try to mask it pretty well. If you do not meet your quota on additional sales revenue per day (SRPD) for 3 months consecutively you will be terminated. That would have been nice to know up front instead of 2 weeks after working for the company, but oh well. Their is no work/life balance. You can expect to work 55+ hrs/week minimum needing to stay over at random. There were times my paychecks would have more overtime pay than regular pay. I would venture to say 75% of the Branch Manager's or Trainee's (and every title in-between) are very burnt out, and often seek other employment. This leads to an unbelievably accepted amount of turnover in employees every year, so don't expect to get too close to your co-worker you spend 12+hrs/day with. As is the case with any rental car company, you run very low on cars. Fleet is expensive in this industry and obviously you want to pay for as little as possible for it. However you typically still accept all online reservations and business even though the cars aren't there which creates a lot of understandably upset customers.
