Pros

It is a fun, laid-back environment to work in. It feels more like 'hanging out' instead of 'working.' Most of the kids are great and it is nice to get to know the parents. There are a lot of opportunities for outside babysitting as well.

Cons

It can be difficult to deal with some of the parents. We are a 'casual monitoring service,' although there are parents that think of us as a full-on daycare and try to take advantage of us and expect too much. Some of the parents view us as the cheapest babysitters around when that is not what we are.

Pros

As a personal trainer for over 5 years at Gold's Gym, I can say that there are most definatly some advantages. Setting one's hours is especially convenient, that has really been the biggest selling point for me all these years. Hourly pay: i.e. you work it, you get it. If you're willing to grind day and night, no one can stop you from taking 25 clients per day and raking in the money.

Cons

NO benefits. None. Zero. Also, no uniforms, you have to buy and have them printed yourself. Tasks. More and more tasks are being asked of us as part time workers. Clearly defined in the roles of the personal trainer are to keep the gym clean. But there is nowhere in the payment system to allot for this time. So it ends up being free labor for them, and frustration for us.

Pros

Largest Coed Gym Chain in the world and Gold's Gym SoCal is one of the top franchises for Gold's in the world. Seeing everyday what a positive impact you had on the community you served. Changing peoples live by making them healthier and active. Getting the experience of managing several department heads and around 50 employees which can take you to a management role in almost any Fortune 500 Retail Organization.

Cons

Very Long Days. Usually 10 hour days Mon-Fri and a 4-6 hours on Saturday. Management for this Franchise had a very Fixed Mindset and led by Fear of Loss. Most of these VP's have since moved on, however this Leadership culture most likely came down from Franchise Ownership. At least twice a month we would hold Open Houses and these days were 14 plus hours. This is a very Sales Driven Industry and the LA market is highly competitive, so sometimes we lost focus on customer service and put every ounce of energy towards Sales.
