Pros

* Wide variety of interesting problems to solve * Working on a physical product

Cons

* Inexperienced management (disconnected), lots of politics and conflicts, frequent re-org changes. * High stress, lack of trust between peers, people fighting each other for getting personal credit * Lack of culture of striving for professionalism. Only few engineers are highly professional. * Office perks are not comparable to high-tech companies

Pros

Well established development process, good benefits, flexible hours

Cons

Middle layer management know nothing about technical work and they are not qualified for those positions. For example, an algo engineering manager may have never opened Matlab in his whole career. A software manager may have never write one line of code.
