Pros

Pay and benefits... great work life balance.

Cons

They will lay people off every few years. You can be there 5-25 years, be a performer, and they will let you go. Just like that. I wouldn't bet on a career there.

Pros

The company has a great reputation in the community, so having experience at GMI looks great on your resume! The company also offers lots of resources for professional development should you have the time to invest in them.

Cons

- Lack of Work-Life Balance: It's difficult to take vacation and for others to respect your time off. It's very much the norm to work long hours- including nights and weekends- and you will notice that most people attend meetings and answer e-mails while they are supposed to be out. - Challenges with Being An External Hire: Most of GMI leaders are legacy GMI employees. If you are an external hire, expect to be presented with constant challenges in doing things differently in more effective and efficient ways. I often find myself in situations where it's me against a whole group that is very resistant to change and industry best practices. - Slow & Unclear Decision Rights: Projects and decision-making takes a very long time here because it is unclear who needs to be involved and who has authority to make decisions. - Too Many People Movements: General Mills is so invested in professional development that it rotates people too frequently- so often that it's difficult to find SMEs on a topic because once a business partner becomes successful/knowledgeable in their role, they are quickly shuffled to a different one.

Pros

The people were mostly good to work with. There is a nice food basket given around Christmas.

Cons

The company is a dysfunctional mess. When the stock market soars General Mills crawls. They cannot innovate, and keep closing down plants, something like ten in the last decade. The culture of the company is killing it, addressing issues in plants and rewarding performance is a non existent feature of this company, just look at the industrial costs. Probably twice industry average for the same amount of product produced.
