Pros

Recognizable brands, great reputation in the community, good people to work with, looks great on a resume. Leadership actually believes what they tell their employees (pro and con) Sincere and active commitment to developing women and minorities. Investment in developing people for long-term careers. Work-life balance, especially for parents. On-site auto, health, beauty, banking, shopping

Cons

Overall packaged foods industry is out of fashion with the consumer. Brands and product lines on the decline. Tendency towards promoting "nice people that manage up" -but not necessarily the most competent individuals. Highly political culture, difficult to navigate for people that didn't "grow up at General Mills" Painfully slow to act. Management uncomfortable making decisions and constantly seeks consensus which often paralyzes forward momentum. Compensation is below industry average which used to be offset by job security, upward mobility, and other non-salary benefits -which is no longer the case and now we are just plain underpaid. Job titles are out of sync with the rest of industry (title deflation) which gives us less respect both with our customers and in the job marketplace despite our performance and responsibilities. Recent round of layoffs has provided mid-level employees with little hope for continued upward mobility.

Going downhill

Pros

Still get our vacation time, most other benefits keep getting trimmed down or eliminated all together. Good people at lower levels

Cons

Company has been trimming down last few years. Second round of layoffs going on. Company keeps people in dark. Expect things to keep getting worse before they get better.

Good pay

Pros

I loved the pay, the job, the fast pace, and the day to day challenges. The first 11.5 years were great!

Cons

Constantly hiring kids out of college to be supervisors, who would do anything, even lie, to move up the corporate ladder. Do not get hurt here, you will be thrown under the bus. They will HIDE any record of a past work order\orders to repair the equipment that you were injured on. They make people come right back to work following an injury there, even right after surgery, to keep from ruining their "safety record" Do not expect to be thanked for a job well done. 13 years, personally thanked three times. They never addressed problems with people that continuously slacked off.
