Pros

Great people who are dedication to making a great product while increasing shareholder value. You own your career path. Plently of feedback and developmental opportunties of you choose to take advantage of them. Great focus on work/life balance. Compenstation is hard to beat once you get into restriced stock award job levels.

Cons

Winters in Minneapolis are brutal !! You do get used to them, but it's depressing for 1/2 the year. Not a cutting edge company; generally a slow and steady company that is risk adverse. A company too loyal to it's employees. Definitely has it's share of dead weight that isn't dealt with.

Pros

Stable place to work - you'll NEVER get fired here. It seems as though they encourage people to chug along their careers in mediocrity without fear of reproach.

Cons

Creativity is often stifled. There is an extreme lack of diversity – in thought, or personnel. Work life balance exists in only a very few work functions – almost nonexistent in Sales. Compensation is far behind vs. peers – even with the “Total Rewards” comparisons. Often times there is a definite arrogance at GMI that make it dificult to create any real change or progress. It’s headquartered in Minneapolis.

Pros

General Mills provides awesome benefits, great amenities in the Minneapolis office (including free fitness center, free doctor's clinic, hair salon, bank, concierge, dry cleaning), and good, competitive compensation. GMI definitely is true to its values and ethics, and I think it extends beyond the legal obligation. This committment to our values, along with the focus on teamwork and collaboration makes me generally happy to come into work each day.

Cons

If you live in Minneapolis, it is cold! If you don't , but you want to be promoted with the company, know that ALL ROADS LEAD TO MINNEAPOLIS and you will be here at some point. If you don't naturally have the General Mills "personality" you might find GMI, like any coroporation to be overly PC and overly peppy. If you are not proficient at networking, or have no intention of learning how, you might find your ability to be promoted limited as you move up with the company.
