Pros

The inital flourish of saying you work for GM quickly leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when you realize that the company will never credit hard work.

Cons

Research and Development is clearly the skid mark of GM - and they make it known. The compensation is horrible for the amount of work that you do, don't even think about getting a promotion it will take you at least 4 years. At least. The managers...I honestly don't even know where to start with that. Every one is out for themselves in this company. I can't help but laugh a little at some of the "great" perks that others are mentioning, clearly they work(ed) at headquarters. I worked at one of the technical centers and we never got anything, except a memo telling us not to drill holes in the wall because of the Asbestos problem - thanks!

Pros

Benefits are truly AMAZING!! Paid time off for all Holidays, good 401k matching, Strong community involvement (Mud Volleyball, Family Fair) Best coworkers in the WORLD!!! If it wasn't for my coworkers, i would have been gone years ago! Bonus checks!

Cons

Jobs can get boring if you have that nonstop drive to keep on learning new positions. and Meetings meetings meetings :/ Now their expecting so much out of their people its getting ridiculous.

Pros

-Very good health insurance -Nice corporate office with plenty of "creature comforts" -Ethical and genuinely interested in doing the right thing -Strong work-life balance programs; but most people are too overworked to take advantage of them

Cons

-Compensation equity issues and lack of pay for individual performance -Limited advancement opportunities for stellar performers and high potentials; leads to a culture of extreme competitiveness for a limited number of development track roles in Sales & Marketing -Very hierarchical "yes" culture, which is overly process driven -Not a good place for experienced hires and longer term employees who aren't at Director level
