Pros
- Excellent benefits including maternity leave, paid short term disability, flexibility from management with use of leave, etc. - Great entry-level pay. - Low stress atmosphere. - Fairly relaxed management environment. - Stable - Skills transfer easily within public sector and public sector contractors. - Large organization
Cons
- Pay increases can be difficult, especially for mid-career employees, management may block transfers. - You will not gain as much work experience as you would in a private sector position and may be siloed. - The public sector comes with layers of bureaucracy and extra rules. - Remote work seems overly discouraged. - Very regimented hierarchical management structure - Company match isn't great - Do not treat their low level help desk people very well (Tier 1), if you're on Tier 2 or Tier 3 you're good though.
