Pros

Helping students learn. Summers off (without pay). Typically off work by 3 pm. Christmas break and spring break is nice.

Cons

Administration changes typically every 3 years. Your principal can make or break your job. If you have a micromanaging principal, your life will be miserable. Pay is too low for a living wage. If you are empathetic, it will be used to their advantage.

Pros

1. Supportive and Positive Work Environment- Work with kind, collaborative, and respectful teammates who make coming to work enjoyable. 2. Strong Sense of Purpose- Feel like your work matters and contributes to something meaningful every day. 3. Work-Life Balance- Reasonable hours, understanding management, and flexibility when you need it.

Cons

1. Limited Financial Growth- Fewer opportunities for significant raises, bonuses, or advancement tied to pay increases. 2. May Require Sacrifices- You might need to supplement income with a second job or cut back on personal expenses. 3. Hard to Justify Long-Term- While the environment is rewarding, staying long-term could delay broader career or financial ambitions.

Pros

-Getting to spend time enriching kids is incredibly fulfilling. -I get every major holiday on the federal calendar off. -My contract hours end at 3:30. -I like my coworkers. -I have pretty good insurance.

Cons

-I spend a lot of time outside of work hours doing work that I don't get compensated for. -I spend a lot of my own money on my classroom because there aren't a lot of funds for public education. -NC teacher pay is bad compared to the states around us, and Gaston County's supplement is bad compared to the counties around us. -Our state is more focused on graduation rate than literacy or math skills. Kids are failing classes, then cheating through easy recovery classes online to get a credit they didn't earn.
