Pros

1. Discount, discount, discount-if you're a slave to fashion this is the place to work. 2. The people are awesome. Desipite being over worked and under payed this is a great place to make life long friends. Everyone is sooooo friendly you'd swear they were putting something in the water, some of the nicest people I've ever worked with have been at the Gap. For the most part everyone is very respectful and a joy to work with. 3. Fridays are usually very casual-meaning most people leave around 2-3pm to get a jump start on the weekend! During ski season everyone jets out early to head to Tahoe and during the summer they leave early to head to Napa!

Cons

If you don't "play the game" or "drink the kool-aid" you won't last long. It's all about leveraging connections and appearances-it's amazing how quickly some people get promoted because upper management thinks they look and talk the part (although they're not doing the work to back it up.) Another big downside of BR and Gap is that the designers are in New York CIty, last year I spend over 8 weeks in New York. At first the travel seems great but after the 3rd or 4th trip of the year to New York my body started to protest the cross country flights and week long stays in hotels-I still get exhausted just thinking about it! If I wanted to work in New York that much I would move there!

Pros

The people were great and the discount was a perk. The creativity was great and it was easy to feel like you were making a contribution to the organization. The company is also very socially aware and it was great to be involved in events like the San Francisco AIDS walk. Events and training were generally very well thought out and Gap does teach you the skills you need to be successful.

Cons

People that were there a long time were overlooked for advancement. I went through so many managers it was ridiculous. There were also a lot of cliques. Those of you who just want to get your job done as oppossed to socializing may need to think twice. It felt like being a great employee who received good reviews was not quite good enough.

Pros

Fun (and young) culture. Company values diversity and this is by far the most diverse employee base I have worked with. Great job in this regard! Company is very involved in the community and takes social responsibility very seriously.

Cons

Extremely political. Very high turnover. Most senior management promoted due to tenure, not leadership capabilities. "Yes-man" culture thrives. Employee morale overall is low due to political fiefdoms and lack of company growth last few years. No drive for innovation and managers don't want to stick their heads out and take a risk.
