Pros

GSK is a well-respected, forward thinking, global leader in the healthcare industry. Salaries are fair, and as a sales rep, I can say that I am not micro-managed. This is a good company to work for, but I would not recommend joining us on the pharma side -- try vaccines, HIV, consumer health, etc.

Cons

Because of the economic situation nationally, this is a bad time to get into pharma sales. I've had multiple managers in a very short time frame, experienced two recent lay-offs, and am certain another is looming. Bonus is almost impossible to make at this point, as well.

Pros

Pharma-sales is easy once you are established. Good health benefits, work hours and company car. Sales jobs with reasonable base salaries are always good. Very good compensation packages for reps recently layed off. GSK is not a pressure sales environment.

Cons

Doctors don't want to see reps. (This is an industry problem and not specific to GSK.) Often felt more like a caterer than a sales person. You can go an entire day and not see a Doctor legit. GSK has gone through massive layoffs. Moral is low. Can't get promoted. No room for advancement. Industry is dying. Sales numbers were guess work. Bonus potential seemed capped. Wages were going down. Sales portfolio often depends on other sales reps which can be unfair.

Pros

-Direct line managers here at GSK are very committed to the growth and development of their employees as well as maintaining a dedicated path to success. Additionally, the current bonus structure is formulated based on your area's performance, as opposed to considering your own accomplishments, but that is changing starting next year. Overall, GSK offers tremendous benefits, is willing to ensure you excel at your abilities, and looks forward to your growth. Here you are not just an employee, but rather an investment in the company, and if you can prove your worth, you will be rewarded.

Cons

While there are plenty of opportunities if your area of the business is doing well, there is also a downside for under-performing groups. When certain areas of the business are forced to shut down, many jobs are effected, and it can be increasingly difficult to relocate to another area. Additionally, it is more difficult then one would expect to move laterally between business groups.
