Pros

There are some people within R&D who are absolute gems and very inspiring to work next to. Good perks like bonus, pension scheme and share scheme. Private healthcare to partially cover the therapist you will need from having a GSK R&D job.

Cons

Toxic workplace, many of the managers have been at GSK their whole career and pretend that the work environment is good. Workplace issues are not taken seriously when raised to the manager or the leadership team. Problems in unprofessionalism are brushed under the rug and if you're the junior person raising an issue you'll be the one on the back foot. Blatant sexism, more visibility and better opportunities are given to male colleagues. Progression conversations are shut down if you're a woman, but not if you're a man. Credit not given for work. The discrimination is very subtle and leaves you questioning your own ability - a horrible place especially for young driven female scientists. Line managers protect themselves and don't raise issues to HR or department heads! People leave without having an alternate job secured! Avoid GSK R&D at all costs!

Pros

Overall it’s a good company, very profitable and successful

Cons

Depending on luck, one can get very toxic and incompetent managers and supervisors. When the manager’s incompetence starts to impact projects, they quickly blame it on the external consultants and try to ruin the reputation of the consultants so that they can get away with their incompetence and spend as many years as possible in the job until they reach retirement. They hold to their desk chair for life, even when they are creating zero value, on the contrary. When consultants raise complaints, they try to black list the consultant to cover everything up. They also try to overwork and disrespect teams in India due to lack of labor regulations. Truly unethical. Dishonesty, incompetence and corruption is very prevalent in some departments where employees do not need strong skills to do the job, such as Global Regulatory Affairs for example. Completely run by office politics.
