Pros

Smart people, great exposure to clients across industries/sectors. Ability to learn about industry trends, challenges, players. Smart people (very young culture, though).

Cons

Ridiculously political. Secrecy, ongoing change of direction from senior leadership. CEO has zero executive presence and is not interested in being a true leader. High turnover. Silos between NAFS and New Markets teams. Lip-service is paid to talent development, but it's not authentic. A few great leaders and several disastrous ones. Silverlake hoped for an IPO and eventually pulled out... now company has to decide how to sustain itself. NAFS has leveled off, PSF is improving, Corporate Markets is growing, Life Sciences is struggling to keep clients and talent. Strong leadership: NAFS, Professional Services, Corporate Markets Red flag areas: Life Sciences, New Markets Leadership

GLG Response

You’ve flagged some of the most important aspects of GLG: our culture of learning, our amazing people, and exceptional client exposure. You’re also correct that our business is growing like gangbusters across all the business units you mentioned (and others!), which is really exciting. We’re an evolving business, and as such we do pivot when we feel that change will help the company grow and become even more successful. It’s true that New Markets and Financial Services haven’t always collaborated closely. We are, however, seeing more cross-communication than ever since organizing Corporate Markets by vertical this year, and we expect that will continue to accelerate over time. As for talent development: speaking as the person who has been leading that effort this year, I disagree that it isn’t “authentic.” We still have work to do, but everyone on the management team takes talent development seriously, and we are all committed to developing our people. Finally, to me a true leader cares about the people he leads, is committed to their success, and does everything possible to help them succeed – this is who we have at the helm at GLG.
