Pros

- The company has a unique business model and every project comes with a challenge that can be very fulfilling for people who like engaging work. - The company has decent reputation in the industry which makes it easier to not come off as a scam when contacting targets.

Cons

- Discrimination in the workplace. Managers are inexperienced at managing people and have no idea / ability to manage employees who come from diverse backgrounds. The worst part is that they don't even realize how their actions are discriminatory which makes understanding racist behavior a remote concept for them. Their condescending tone and inability to intrinsically drive people is going to scare away younger talent (of color) when cities like Austin see more opportunities flocking.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. We’re sorry to hear your experiences do not align with our efforts to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. Diversity is a core value at GLG, guiding how we treat each other, our clients, and our experts. We’ve strengthened our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives significantly over the last year and a half, launching seven Diversity Networks, expanding our training and education programming for our front-line managers, redoubling our commitment to sourcing candidates from diverse backgrounds, and raising awareness around our no-tolerance policies for discrimination. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but know this work is never complete. The situation you describe certainly comes as news to us, and it's something we absolutely want to investigate (with your cooperation). Do not hesitate to reach out to a member of our People Team or our Chief Diversity Officer Desireé Dancy directly to share specifics about your experience.

Pros

- Great learning from the best professionals I've ever worked wtih and learned from. - Superb 'team-work' collaboration at a level I've also not seen elsewhere. GLG really does attract the best of the best in every category. - Excellent remuneration and bonuses. - Senior management have a supremely awesome understanding of business, strategy and profit. I've learned so much. - You'll learn more at GLG than you'll learn anywhere else. Despite all the drawbacks it's a fantastic place to start your career and grow your experience FAST.

Cons

- Toxic culture from the leadership - too much woke virtue signalling ALL the time. The messaging is clearly insincere and motivated entirely by profit. - They still exploit their staff just as they've always done - all the talk of 'Compassion' is insencere and inauthentic - there's a difference between what they say and do. - The intensity of the speed of things at GLG consumes you at times. - Unfortunately, with COVID the old entrepreneurial vibe is gone. Everything is about systems, new systems, best practices, hierarchies of approval and there's so much more red tape and a lack of autonimous decision making than there used to be.

We’re glad to hear you've found colleagues at GLG who you can collaborate with and learn from. We encourage positive collaboration across the company, and we strive to create a welcoming environment for all. GLG is a for-profit company—we don’t see this as running counter to our ethical responsibilities toward the world in which we do business. This is an industry we founded more than 20 years ago. As we continue to innovate on behalf of our clients, experts, and larger GLG community, we feel we have a responsibility to leverage our unique assets and business success to deliver tangible solutions to mission-driven organizations. Given the nature of GLG’s work, we’re especially well-positioned to provide valuable in-kind services to nonprofit clients, who rely heavily on expert insights to make an impact in their respective communities. We don’t see any conflict between the high performance our business requires and compassion for each other’s situations. In fact, GLGers often take this upon themselves, whether by participating in one of our Diversity Networks or stepping up for each other during February's winter storm in Austin or throughout India's recent Covid surge. There are examples of genuine compassion every day at this company, and we're proud to have a culture that puts a premium on purpose and values.

Pros

-Diversity & Inclusion events & transparency -Handled COVID-19 transition well with weekly updates and webinars with leading medical experts in the space -Push for prioritizing mental health with Zoom workshops (although most are too busy to attend) -Great colleagues & teammates who are in the trenches with you -Senior leadership is transparent and forthcoming with information & updates -Some clients are very nice/kind -Opportunity to build soft skills in the corporate world -Chance to speak with some amazing clients/CMs that otherwise you would may not have -Looks impressive on resume -Learning how to hustle -If you have a good manager then you will probably enjoy your time a lot more

Cons

-Middle management is some of the worst I've ever experienced -Depending on your department/manager - can be highly toxic/negative/micromanaged environment -They track everything you do - when you log on and off and minute details of your work/habits -Positive feedback is few and far between (again depending on your manager) - small mistakes are highlighted and blown out proportion (ie. a typo in an email) -Everything is highly transactional, from the way employees are treated, to clients, to council members - there is no feeling of "soul" behind what we're doing -Robotic/boring & monotonous work - you scroll Linked in and internal systems all day and click buttons -Always setting higher and higher expectations even if impossible to hit all of the metrics/KPIs they want you to -Got a feeling I was not a person working here, more like worker #3295592 -Lack of culture on the team level - disconnect between senior leadership culture & team level culture -Work life balance is nonexistent... even with WFH you have to tell everyone where you are if you step away to go to the bathroom or get a snack for 10 minutes -Similarly, being online and replying to clients during late hours/weekends is highly praised and highlighted among channels from team level to senior leadership -Threats & fear tactics come up if your metrics/KPIs are not up to muster -Negative & passive aggressive environment
