Pros

Some of your co-workers are nice.

Cons

Working at GLAAD is in a lot of ways the worst of both worlds: you've got the lousy salary of a non-profit job, combined with the expectations, dumb office politics, and corporate soullessness of a white collar job. As has been said by other reviews, there is essentially zero long-term planning or vision here. The CEO and c-suite are more concerned with PR-friendly "wins" than they are with sustainable programming. Management is constantly just chasing whatever the latest trend is, with no ideas beyond making numbers for the current quarter. Insane levels of staff turnover, especially for an organization this small. You are never shocked when you get the "Jane Doe will be leaving the organization" email, or when someone tells you that this is their last week. Middle management is a revolving door. Lean, nonsensical budgets. Departments get told to do more with less, while money gets dumped into consultants and cosmetic office renovations.

Pros

GLAAD was an amazing place to work back in the day.

Cons

The CEO makes $500k. CEOs at other orgs whose fundraising dwarfs GLAAD’s make half that. Greed is the motivator. It’s vile to think how much good $500k could make in the lives of LGBTQ folkx. GLAAD hasn’t been about social Justice nor the movement it was born out if in the 1980s in decades. Time to close shop. Donors should not give to an org who CEO makes this amount when the rest of the staff make peanuts.

Pros

- Friendly staff. - Decent benefits. - Kind and genuine CEO.

Cons

- Passive aggressive executive leadership. - Long hours, quick burnout. - High staff turnover. - Within days of hire and every month after, you will inevitably get the "hi, we're expanding your role to include..." phone call with tasks that include the kitchen sink of whomever recently jumped ship. You will not have a choice. - No structure. No HR. Poorly inefficient and outdated payroll/bookkeeping system. - Any employee accomplishments, acknowledgements or praise issued by the CEO or lower level management are often overshadowed by executive leadership's constant need to criticize.
