Pros

Flexible work environment, good pay. Huge trend upwards in terms of culture and focus on expecting managers to manage people and take part in guiding their development

Cons

Constant layoffs reduces confidence in leadership and people to feel very insecure about their jobs. There is only so much that can be blamed on the market. Layoffs means survivors end up doing 2-3 jobs (literally) and often with no additional compensation. Expected to be available 24/7 making work/life balance impossible. Lots of focus on millennial and fast tracking their careers. No focus on mid career or advanced level professionals creating much turnover and dissatisfaction. A lot of focus on image/perception vs reality. Some businesses have bonuses at lower levels, some don't

Pros

Interesting problems to solve. Fun technology to work with.

Cons

When I told my manager that I didn't get my paycheck after returning from paternity leave, his response was, "Haha, that sucks." I still have unpaid wages from them 6 months later. Manager tried to get me to work during my paternity leave. I extended my paternity leave into unpaid time, he called me up and told me it wouldn't be good for me to do that. When I came back from paternity leave he wrote me up for not working, which is an FMLA violation. Contacted HR, but the guy is in another state and just didn't care.

Pros

GE allows you to explore many avenues from a career perspective. Movement internally is allowed and actually encouraged. With the right management support you can get on board with interesting problems to solve with interesting people

Cons

Right now is a period of centralization of the core IT organization. There are a lot of changes to simplify things - some of them under the guise of simplification, most under the goal of cost reduction. Its a tough place to be now and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
