Pros

Fulbright treats their grantees very well - lots of opportunities to grow with very little policing. The focus is on professional development and personal growth and they provide a lot of support when needed. As an English Teaching Assistant I always feel comfortable reaching out for help when I want it or going weeks without communication as I continue to create my own personal experience in my country.

Cons

A few strange restrictions that don't exist for other Fulbright programs - have to buy a round trip ticket to and from the United States, can only stay for the nine month period, no opportunity to renew for another term.

Pros

You will challenge yourself and develop professional skills that will serve you for the rest of your career. I had opportunities to travel and immerse myself in living in a totally new environment, with the support I needed from the local Fulbright commission.

Cons

Expectations are unclear, which can be frustrating and challenging, but also allows you to make the experience what you want it to be. The variation between programs in different countries also makes it hard to learn about what you're getting involved in until you're already getting yourself started.

Pros

Paid housing, decent training, essentially a semi-paid vacation year for recent college graduates using American taxpayer dollars.

Cons

Severely underworked, unprofessional work environment, misunderstanding of the goals of the program, program and host institution have mis-aligned objectives.
