Great Potential, Poor Management

Pros

Great place for new quality and manufacturing engineers to learn the ropes. Lots of work and projects available. Opportunities to learn how to use SAP.

Cons

Poor management of resources. Much of the work is coordinated using crisis-time management, because project management principles are never fully implemented. Low morale due to lack of regularly scheduled performance reviews, hence employees do not know where they stand. Unwillingness by management to provide financial incentives like bonuses. Raises are hard to come by, and when they do happen, are not commensurate with market standards. Big focus on Lean Manufacturing and 5S, but at the expense of projects that could more fully contribute to revenue. Training is done, IF there is time; otherwise, you're on your own.

Pros

Job security, decent work environment,. FNGP-Manchester was a great company under the old regime. With a real retirement/pension benefit, great health insurance & many other small perks.

Cons

Certain senior manager(s) used fear tactics on their staff & though they "talked the lean talk" didn't "walk the lean walk" Many good managers left or suffered stress related illnesses. Since 1998 plant managers have been bonus-driven to the detriment of employees & the company.

Management disconnect. Unwilling to provide resources.

Pros

You get a lot of experience in a short period of time.

Cons

Helix struggles to understand the requirements to ensure minimal defects. There is constant corner cutting and rationalization of why things are done the wrong way. There is a disconnect between management and employees. New projects are constantly given to teams despite those teams trying to clean up messes from lack of resources on previous projects. There is no way to get ahead of the workload. Once a company goes lean they stay lean.
