Horrible place to work

Pros

Benefits and pay are good thanks to the union.

Cons

No work life balance, mandatory overtime daily. No way of knowing when your shift will end. Awful management and supervisors. They are incompetent at running a business and the employees are the ones forced to suffer. Safety is a joke. They tell the workers to be safe but it’s all lip service. They want the job done at the fastest speed possible even if it means corners are cut and peoples health and well-being is compromised. All employees are disposable. If you get injured you will be bullied and harassed by management and by coworkers. They can even fire you for getting injured. Toxic work culture. Supervisors and coworkers will harass you. Sexual harassment happens daily. Racist harassment happens daily. If you complain about it upper management will tell you you’re being sensitive and that you probably didn’t realize the other person was joking.

Pros

Good money for entry level job. Working overnight allows you the freedom to listen to music. Union benefits even if they are garbage.

Cons

Terrible management. They will push you to your limits. They will continue to add more and more work that isnt in your job description until you are completely overwhelmed. They will throw you under the bus without a second thought. Seriously it's a horrible environment. The management operates as a click where they are all buddies and will take advantage of any ground level employee. They are also totally incompetent and almost none of them are good at their jobs. You advance in this company by sucking up to your superiors. Work performance means nothing. If you contact your union rep about an issue they will look for reasons to fire you. They will lie to your face without a second thought.

Pros

The work was mindless but not too bad. It was fun to interact with customers and I was moving all day stocking shelves, lifting boxes, etc. so I felt pretty good physically. There was always something to do, especially during the day when time flew by. I loved helping customers and daytime tasks varied a lot which was nice. The department managers were nice and my coworkers were pleasant to work with. There was some upward mobility if you wanted to manage and the pay wasn't bad for retail.

Cons

The managers who worked in back were extremely unpleasant to be around. They avoided eye contact, barked orders, never said hello or goodbye, never gave any positive feedback. I avoided them as much as possible. Everyone seemed to accept it which was weird to me, even after one of the managers made an employee cry and then mocked her for crying. "That's just how he is" was the attitude. The expectations were impossible to meet, such as straightening every single item on the shelves in every aisle in a time period that was completely unrealistic. They trained me to be extremely precise in what to do, but I realized later that no one actually worked that way because they would never have enough time to finish the work. So why did they train me that way to begin with? It caused unnecessary stress and it felt like I was set up to fail. I asked for direct feedback and to observe the way it was supposed to be done, and I never saw anyone do what was expected of me within the time frame. My direct supervisor was very nice, but unfortunately I never saw her and was stuck working for the unpleasant male managers at night because you have little control over your schedule. It was one of the worst jobs I've ever had and I'm glad to be out of that place.
