Pros

Discounts, bonuses, health care plan

Cons

Scheduling salary managers to work 9 days in a row, 10 hours a day is both excessive and abusive. If you needed a certain schedule for religious purposes, they will schedule you to work overnight when that is not your normal schedule just because you requested time. If you needed to go to church on a Sunday during your lunch, you had to work even more extra time than the 50 hours they already scheduled you. Real cliquish backstabbing type atmosphere. Company spends too much money changing its mind and focuses on things that in grand scale of things - don't really matter to customers. Very slim amount of diversity at the top. Their faux BLM campaign dried up very quickly as soon as it was off the news. Not the greatest training plan for new managers.

Pros

Adequate, consistent pay, daily if you want it, even. Easy work if you have any people skills. Strong union and good, cheap, benefits once they kick in. (One year for health, two for dental)

Cons

Corporate is horrible and constantly cuts hour budgets, management is forced to schedule about half as many people as the store actually needs, they won't pay a few hundred a day to staff loss prevention but they'll let thousands of dollars of product get stolen that could've easily been stopped. Good managers often get promoted and moved to other stores very quickly and replaced with incompetent people. New hires are thrown in on the deep end with little to no training, the store offers online training called 'Fresh Start' that's actually just useless busywork not even related to the employee's department, i.e a clothing stocker being tested on deli slicer safety in their daily 'training'. People constantly call in sick and management doesn't want to offer people overtime to cover the opened hours.

Pros

Good health and retirement account benefits if you're a loyal associate for many years. Lots of learning opportunities for business basics and many other things. Lots of different kinds of good, nice coworkers. Fast-paced work environment. Job security.

Cons

It's retail. Customers can be loathsome. Constantly overworked. Usually underpaid. Fred Meyer has also become much more corporate, hierarchical, and stagnant in the last few years, largely due to Kroger consuming it. For example, about 8 years ago I asked my manager for a raise due to my great job performance. She agreed and gave me a raise. However, when I presented my case for a raise again in 2022, with many facts/figures, I was rejected by some anonymous pencil pusher in the corporate office even though all managers at the store agreed that I merited a raise. Store-level management no longer has any influence to do anything significant to help associates. Corporate has made store-level management utterly impotent. I was told by my HR Manager, "I don't think Fred Meyer believes in merit-based raises anymore." However, the CEO got a $1,000,000 raise shortly after I was denied a small raise...
