Poor Corporate HR Leadership

Pros

The leadership at the site is strong for the most part and most of the people in the company are great.

Cons

People leave Managers, not Companies and that is the case for me. My manager was a micromanager who thought that saying he wasn’t trying to micromanage somehow negated that he was doing it. When I resigned, he asked me to not tell anyone so he could come up with a transition plan. Said it would only be a day or so. Then the next day he posts my job internally and externally. The people I supported found out from the web instead of me that I was leaving. He never did tell me I was able to tell anyone. I gave three weeks notice and he asked for an extra week and I kindly agreed because I am a team player. He requested I cancel my vacation that had been pre-scheduled and got snippy when I said I couldn’t. Then the Monday after my vacation he condescendingly asked me how my vacation was. Very off-putting. My favorite part was when he thanked me for my 7 years of service on our team call, I had just shy of 9 years. Shows you how much he really cared about his team. The final slap in the face came after I learned that I had been nominated for a recognition award from a leader and he declined it because I resigned. I also believe he declined another one earlier in the year. Our Controller resigned in January and before he left he told me he put me in for an award for all my help on a large project that he knew my manager wasn’t happy I was assisting on. He never lied and I never received the award.

Pros

I started my career as an Associate Engineer at Valve division (then FCEC). When it was valve division, things were good. Though site leadership was a burning issue, it never had impact on bottom level engineers. 1. Good place to accumulate product knowledge. 2. Wide variety of job portfolios

Cons

1. Lack of vision towards R&D path. 2. No career path for R&D engineers! Trust me, hardly 15-20 engineers out of 300 work on R&D. One has to wait for long ( and sometimes you have to please your manager) to get some projects! 3. HR wing is useless. HR is a secret agent for site leadership. HR carries all information from employees to site leadership to turn against employees. 4. Apathy towards employees. No single demand of employee has been fulfilled after formation of GTEC . 5. Linguistic and regional bias-ism is prominent

Pros

Business is tied to Oil & Gas. When O&G is doing well, this company is profitable and doing well.

Cons

If the customer industries (e.g. O&G) are not doing well the company suffers as it does not have a strong competitive advantage to retain it's position. New leadership in place and major re-organization is underway for the past 18 months.
