Pros
- Easy to get hired - Co-workers, and some trainers are nice
Cons
-Wage is not competitive. County school districts in the same area pay atleast $5 more an hour. -Micromanage and over train at the same time. - Teach based on procedure, and not based on principal. Do XYZ things in 1,2,3,4 step form. Instead of actually teaching what you're trying to accomplish. - Management is poor and inattentive. The training process took 5 months, largely due to managerial incompetence. - Manager was unable to give trainees their hours on a weekly basis. Not knowing the hours for people until the day before, insisting they would text you when you could come in instead of figuring out a single schedule. This results in trainees effectively standing by to hear about their schedule. - Insurance coverage is next to nothing. - No job protection, job is at will, no guaranteed hours for routes. Unlike competitive school districts which guarantee a minimum amount of hours per week + good coverage. First Student takes the opposite approach and tries to weedle down employee hours and earnings.
