Pros

You are your own boss!

Cons

My experience began on December 2018. I was excited to get things going as I was really looking forward to new growth. I took my exam, I got my fingerprints, I got my supplies, I got my E&O Insurance (which I’m still paying monthly for today), I got contracted, and I booked my hotel and flight for Vegas as national convention came closer. At convention I knew my goal was to help as many people as possible. After I came home from convention I was fired from my job because they didn’t like what I was doing, I knew this was a risk but I knew the best things in life happen outside of your comfort zone. However, my up line stopped responding to me when I told him that since I had no money because I spent most of it during the contracting/convention. I felt really discouraged, but I knew it was a process. (I had already spent around $400 in leads and gone into homes) It took me a month or so to find another job. During April/May 2019 I decided to give it another go because I truly believed in Family First Life. Here in Houston I didn’t have anybody nearby that could truly help me or mentor me since my upline was hundreds of miles away and told me not to contact him after 5pm ET while I got off work at 6pm CT. Regardless, I was buying leads, I was dialing and going into homes whenever I could as I was doing this part time. During that month I invested $2300 worth of leads and I didn’t make a single cent. At this point I knew something was wrong, I spent my entire savings and I was burnt out. I was hopeless. I contacted corporate via email and they paired me with another up line 10mins away from me here in Houston. He contacted me and asked for my producer #’s to transfer them over and I also asked him If I could be placed on a lead assistance program. I never received a response after that day on June 14th. At the end of the day, I gave it my best and I truly believe I fit the “All In” mentality that Family First Life is all about, and I still didn’t receive the help that would lead to writing a single policy or making a cent into what I invested. I felt cheated and let down. Slowly, FFL stopped being the life changing career I thought it would be. My advice for beginners make sure you work with somebody that actually cares about you and make sure you learn quickly so you’re not dependent on anybody. Unfortunately I never got to write a single policy, so I wasn’t able to help anybody out much less myself.

Family First Life Response

This review is filled with false claims in regards to what happened with this agent. We are aware of this situation and we know who the agent is. This agent has tried to work with a few different FFL VPs and put little to effort in on their end. The first VP that was working with the agent flew from PA to TX to personally train the agent and help them get going after the convention during the time that the agent claims the VP stopped responding to him. All of our leads are filled out by someone that is actively looking for insurance so the only way that an agent can not make sales off of $2,300 in leads is by not actually working the leads. Which is what happened in this situation. After not making a sale and not due to not actually working the leads the agent wanted another VP to purchase leads for him after he proved that he was unwilling to work his own leads. Commission based sales is not for everyone and at FFL we are upfront about that. This unfortunately was a case of an individual expecting massive results with little action.

Toxic Culture

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Agents are bribed to write positive reviews. Most recently they were offered discounts on leads (that are already marked up) if they posted a positive review and sent a screen shot for verification. There are some IMOs that have lower commissions but none that have a more toxic culture.

Cons

These are all 100% FACTS so if there is a response made to this post, I urge anyone to do their own research and learn the truth for yourself…They advertise that they have the highest commission levels of any IMO which is a blatant lie. Most agents sell Final Expense because all of the new Mortgage Protection leads are taken. Their Final Expense commission pays 15-30% less than the comp level you are told you will be paid. Why is this not discussed when the majority of agents only sell Final Expense? Why do they say they pay renewals? Because most agents have no clue how to find the renewal schedule and it would take them a year to realize they are being lied to about those to. To be fair, some of their products do pay renewals, however they are less than half of the industry standard on Final Expense renewals. The products they promote are so overpriced that most of the business falls off the books before renewals can be paid anyway. Term products pay zero renewals. So when they advertise that other IMOS are stealing from their agents, it is easily the height of hypocrisy. They say you can build an agency to sell to integrity- nearly every IMO has that ability. The culture is horrific. You can’t go to a meeting without hearing them talk about firing or terminating someone. How can an independent contractor be fired? You are told that you are independent but then you are expected to go to all meetings. People are constantly shamed and ridiculed for “not working”. Go to a meeting and listen for how many people “don’t work” how many times they say “terminated” or “fired”. Again these are facts, you will hear this language if you hang around long enough. It is not a healthy environment/culture. The model is sell, sell, sell. That looks fine on the surface and the numbers look good on paper but in reality they couldn’t slow down if they wanted to. So many chargebacks and debt roll ups come in that they have to keep outrunning it. If they ever slowed down the model would crumble. If you recruit and build a team, they own you because they now have something to take from you. Just pay attention to how many agents are moved to different hierarchies. Why do you think that is? Do you really think it won’t happen to you? Do you think you are more special than the others that have their teams stolen from them? Learn the truth and research before you work with FFL. If you want an MLM style where you are pressured to write bad business then perhaps this is your fit. I doubt anyone would choose that if they knew the truth from the start. It is time more people tell the truth about this company rather than the brainwashed ones that are bribed to write positive reviews.

Just Buy More Leads

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Not too many, I was excited at first

Cons

Here is the thing, the leads I bought from FFL, from the portal, the "exclusive leads" that they only sold once to the agents (a lie because I kept buying the same names and these people only filled out one request), sure they were "only" $11 says FFL, but when you are buying 200 a week, that adds up, And when half or more of them are disconnected numbers, or they are to people who NEVER requested anything, duplicates, etc, and only a few are legitimate people who you have a chance of sitting down with, that money adds up. Shawn Maeike says, grow up, get over it, well, YOU get over it, Shawn! You are making, on average, if you have JUST 250 reps (and there are so many more) spending $1000 a week ( and they are spending so much more) FFL is clearing 1 million dollars a month on leads, mostly bad. I call that a pretty good business. Even it is ripping off their own reps. Shady huh.
