Pros

Government employment has great benefits, pension and a 401K, lots of vacation days and sick leave. Dental and vision also available.

Cons

Very few jobs for those who aren't either an air traffic controller or a technician. When an alternative job does come available politics prevail over ability.

Pros

Job security and opportunities to learn and develop new skills. Decent salaries for average workers. Salaries less competitive for people at the top of the hierarchy.

Cons

Bureaucracy and autocratic management style that does not fit in the 21st century. Given this environment, the agency will not be able to retain the best and the brightest millennials and next generation workers when boomers retire. The agency will not be able to be competitive for workers in a good market. .
