Pros

There are none that I had experienced

Cons

Plenty, I have never worked for an agency, except for the Navy, that would force you to move to Puerto Rico

Pros

Benefits and retirement. Union to help protect you.

Cons

Management create a hostile environment, agency knows and does nothing about it. Bad managers only get promoted. If you're not a white male be prepared to be discriminated against; if you're a female you will be sexually harassed and if you report it, it will only make you a target for years to come. There is no incentive to work hard since promotions usually go to the good old boy club.

Pros

Many different projects to work on. Lots of on-the-job training as well as paid training. Smaller teams are given lots of latitude in how to solve problems. Good work/life balance.

Cons

Like a lot of large companies and government agencies, bureaucracy does slow progress sometimes and also can foster a working environment where image and perception can mean more than the actual work being done. It's more important to follow rules and procedures than be creative which is understandable, most of the time, in this type of environment. If you're into that type of thing, then this would be a good fit for you.
