Pros

Salary, well until you flatten out

Cons

And I will quote a senior manager during a ranking session a few years ago “why is everyone so fussed about this process. It’s just about salary administration”. Flash forward a couple of years and I guess what he meant is administration of no salary upon layoffs of highly capable people. The desire to cling to an early 1900s management philosophy of fear and punishment is driven by those who benefited from this system. The remaining 80-90% who make up the rest and will never make it are suffering from some degree of demotivation by the process. The true leaders who try to keep us going never make it very far because inept senior leadership needs them in low positions to get real results. Many of those great leaders who endured are walking away for better things in and out of this industry. There is a serious lack of vision and an attitude of “don’t worry it will all be fine” as it is clear the ship is sinking! I implore anyone considering hiring on to at least look at the stock price over the last 5 years. After recovering from COVID lows the downward trend is right where it has been for that period. That is an objective reflection of the dismal quality of senior leadership.

Pros

Work alongside world leading scientists

Cons

Company declared a war on its employees. Run. The benefits might look attractive at first but there is no future here. Unionized employees have not had a contract or a raise in 4 years. They still don't let you work from home. Even during pandemic the management was forcing people to come in. Very cut throat and unfair performance assessment process. They have quotas to hit on how many people they have to let go each performance assessment cycle. Even if you are a good worker, you are still put through a degrading process of having to justify your existence in the company because they have to let go off 8% of employees each year. It's basically a lay off without having to pay a package. Don't take a job here. Run. It's a slowly dying industry with long term shrinking profits even if they try to shiffle the numbers to show otherwise. The era of oil and gas is over and it's only going to get worse for them. Especially since it's clear that they only are concerned with keeping their shareholders happy, not the employees.

Pros

Salary, that’s all I can say

Cons

Micro management, bullying, you can’t apply for the next job when you are ready, they rank you and pit you against each other, management’s bad behaviors are not only tolerated but defended. It’s the worst decision I ever made to accept a job here. I wish someone had told me all of this before I relocated for this nightmare.
