Compensation: The current compensation structure is not competitive with market rates, which is impacting employee retention and morale.
Management: There is a pattern of promoting individuals with poor/aggressive management skills, which has led to a negative work environment and reduced team performance. The inability of some managers to drive decision making or steer a team is simply shocking. And others fixate on minor details and go on extended profanity filled monologues.
Performance Reviews: The current performance review and appeals processes lack clear guidelines and accountability, resulting in a perception of unfairness and being subject to misuse. This is compounded by inadequate management training. I have read responses from the Chief People Officer UK&I and think she is painfully out of touch, a shame as I have often been very engaged when attending talks.
The appeal process is a total farce as well. Management openly lied and when challenged failed to address, contributing to openly allowing a culture of bullying/retaliation rather than utilising evidence based fact.
Career Pathways: The development of career pathways has been an ongoing initiative for several years; however, these efforts have not been successfully driven to completion as they lose momentum at higher levels of management.
Employee Engagement: There is a disconnect between the feedback requested in employee surveys and the company's strategic actions, such as the offshoring of UK roles. Surveys are perceived as ineffective and also allow individuals to be identified.
Job Security: The company has conducted large-scale redundancy programs over the past two years. Redundancy has been managed poorly and often allowing inexperienced managers to stumble through them unprofessionally. There is no true attempt to find or offer additional roles amounting to a bit of a sham all round.
The frequent and successive redundancies have created knowledge loss and delays in responses to urgent issues, making it difficult for teams to meet established targets and maintain morale.
