Pros

I had a great experience working at EF Shanghai. - The benefits and pay are competitive, including a round trip ticket home and housing benefits (if you're an expat). - Amazing perks: offsite travels, fun happy hours & parties, breakfasts, flexible working hours, insurance plan, great office building & location, etc. - There is a nice culture of respect, equality and kindness. Yes there are cliques and politics but I have seen many other companies that are much worse. - It also offers cross cultural working environment with really smart people from all around the world. Quite inspiring to work with such a broad mix of talents and backgrounds.

Cons

- Big company but low brand awareness worldwide: after I left China I tried to move to a different industry, but since EF was not very known in my home country, my experience was not valued as much. - While the company tries every effort to retain talents, most expats (including myself) see China a temporary stop in their life, causing high turnover with foreign employees.

Terrible Management

Pros

They do take care of visas, apartments and the school are very nice (image-wise), the students are amazing and the parents are very nice but that's as much as it can be said.

Cons

Management is terrible, they are not clear as to goals, action plans. I have been working here for a long time and my managers have not offered any kind of support only threats that if I don't do my job as they see fit then we need to think about other options, but this is not the worst, the school is actually falling apart with chipped paint on the walls, the desks for the students are bent and if you light bulb goes out on your projector for your IWB they won't replace for weeks, don't bother complaining.

Pros

EF China only employ on legal Z working visas, have expert recruiters who have lived or live in China, comprehensive orientation, induction and training and always pay on time. There are new schools opening each year so the opportunity to grow with this industry is definitely there.

Cons

In the summer if you teach kids and teens, there are six day weeks during July and August. However, you are compensated for the extra four days a month and most centres do something special to reward the teachers for this period like going out to nice lunches and dinners etc.
