Pros

Free lunch, beautiful setting, decent pay

Cons

Before you work here, know there’s more than meets the eye. This place has so much money and looks good on the outside, but is rotting from within. You’ll think you’re going to make decent money and have fun with all the benefits, like a ski pass. But then you get here and realize why they pay so much and why they mostly hire J1s and H2B employees because these employees are here on visas and cannot just leave. Their turnover rate is incredibly high and they have a hard time keeping American employees due to their abominable work conditions and company practices. Getting to YC will take 3 hours out of your day that you will never be paid for. That’s at least 15 unpaid hours per week that you spend dealing with trying to get here. They provide transportation, but that does not mean it’s reliable. Very unorganized. Can’t drive yourself here because you’ll be stopped at the gate. They try to reserve parking for the members. If you like leaving Bozeman at 7:00am and getting back 12 hours later, proceed. My department was like high school in the worst way. Passive aggressive attitudes and people ready to backstab you for any opportunity to get ahead. This attitude even made its way into emails and management. Lots of employees work here to get a ski pass. Make sure you know exactly how this works and read the fine print. Make someone explain it to you if you don’t understand. Better yet, GO to Big Sky and buy your own pass because YC uses this as a way to entice new employees and then extort them into staying. If you don’t complete your contract for any reason, they will not just cancel your pass. They will deduct the remaining amount out of your final paycheck. You pay for your pass through YC paycheck deductions as a sort of payment plan, and they hope your fear of losing your pass will make you stay. They know it’s their biggest motivator for new employees but WATCH OUT. Overall elitist attitude among employees, at least the American ones. Just because you work for the 1% cleaning their toilets or serving them or speaking with them doesn’t meant they care about you in any way, or that you get to adopt that attitude. The food isn’t great but it’s free. Bring snacks with you for the ride up and down the mountain.
