Pros
I would say the culture and training, but it all sounds great in the beginning and then it's nothing like they claim it is.
Cons
Area director is rude, unfair and basically non-existent... never on site, never responds to emails, never answers phone. Rarely gives compliments, just criticism. This company claims to have the best training, but its more or less hours of sitting in a webinar classroom through Skype trying to pay attention and not fall asleep, while falling further and further behind in your job because Village Green staffs skeleton crews on site. The material is boring and un-engaging, and the vast majority of those who "graduate" from MIT, say they have no clue what they're doing and feel completely unprepared to be a PM. Work-life balance is non-existent if you want to succeed. 1 person is responsible for the job of 3 people and because sites are so minimally staffed, it is nearly impossible to find coverage to take the PTO you've earned. But its all been said and no one listens or cares. Nothing changes. VG claims to have this amazing culture and is all about their people, but that is a lie. It doesn't matter how amazing you are at your job, or how far above and beyond you go, if you're not in with the right people, you will never get promoted. They will move the same property managers 4 or 5 times, increasing their salaries each time, but then ignore others for any opportunity and keep them at the same site for years, always promising things but then never delivering. It is just a clicky company based 100% on a popularity contest. In 2 years we've lost our VP, a regional VP, our executive below the CEO, and our brand ambassador...among many others. The fact that so many higher paid corporate positions are leaving, says a lot about what it's like to work for Village Green. And the best part is, if you speak up in an attempt for resolution, they put a target on your back, out your name and never resolve the underlying issue. It's sad. So many want to speak up, but are in fear of the backlash and know upper management doesn't care, because they're well aware and nothing has changed. When I started for VG, I wanted nothing more than to retire with them. Now I'm actively seeking other employment with better management companies.
