Pros
If you're interested in working for an airline with some travel benefits, then this is a good first step. The company works with you on hours, so instead of a bidding process or being assigned a shift that may not work for you, you get a custom schedule. You will work, but it can be fun, and your coworkers will most likely be fun to be around. You do get travel benefits on Delta.
Cons
About those travel benefits. Everything is in a "priority" order. Because you don't actually work for Delta, somebody who has less seniority but works for Delta will get on an aircraft before you. Even retirees who no longer work for the company. Don't make this a career. After 10 years you can retire with flight benefits for the rest of your life, but you fly lower than a guest/buddy pass. Oh, it's the same, but rather than keeping your seniority date, that changes to date of hire. Pay sucks. Although that all depends on the contract. It's not standard. Some agents who may work for DGS under a Spirit contract may make $10/hr, while you working on Delta aircraft get $8.25, with the hope of making $9.10/hr after 33 months. Use this job to see if you enjoy the industry, then use this job to gain experience in order to get to a better ground handler. There are some growth opportunities, but since it's such a low paying ground handler, and they work with people, the companies mantra is to hire people who don't want to work, hire those who want to fly. Because of this, a majority of your fellow coworkers don't work enough to get experience, and accidents/damage happen. If you're higher up on the command chain, such as a supervisor, this falls on you, and as such a bullseye is on your back. Management may or may not have your back, and most likely won't have your back. It's a rotating door with supervisors/management. In the 4.5 years I've worked there, I've been through 13 supervisors (4 at a time) and 5 managers (1 at a time), and also a few "performance managers" (they are under the manager, but over the supervisors) have come and gone. Depending if the management likes you, then they will actually work with you on your life. Such as if you have something going on, or another job, then they will follow policy and work with you. If they don't get along with you, then all you hear about is how you are expected to be there for the operation. Favoritism runs rampant (try to take advantage of that if you can).
