Pros

At the location I worked at most employees were like family to each other. Generally the morale and attitude in the store was upbeat and happy, with plenty of joking around while maintaining a professional environment.

Cons

Salary and pay are poor. While minimum wage was $8.05 per hour for hourly employees: -Customer Service Associates started out at about $7.00 per hour plus 1% commission on any sales of retail or hard parts and 2% on all labor/parts done in the shop under their numbers. The majority of CSAs were full time, but a smaller number were employed compared to other stores that kept them at part-time. -Sales Support Associates started at $8.05 per hour and were generally part-time employees with 27 hours a week at most, with no commission under any circumstances. -Commercial Delivery Drivers started at $8.05 per hour, no commission available, 27 hours per week maximum. -Not much chance to advance in the company, or even in the store, raises are supposed to happen once a year, but sometimes don't if the employee were part-time and made minimum wage, unless minimum wage went up. -At the location I worked at, scheduling was worked around the employee's life/circumstances within reason in the Commercial department and sometimes in service, but rarely in Sales Support and Customer Service without notice weeks in advance and, if applicable, with a doctor's note, but even then still not always accepted and allowed. -Senior Management, I.E. Corporate, did not seem to appreciate employees for their work, nor reward them as such. Even if the store was the highest profitable in the area, they always demanded more without offering incentives or showing much, if any, appreciation. -At the location I worked at, while in 3 separate positions and departments within the same store, during the course of the year I was employed, 19 different employees left the store and company altogether. 3 were fired, 8 gave 2 weeks notice, and 8 quit without notice, with several "rage-quitting". Very few completed their last 2-weeks. In a store with an average of 20-25 employees, that level of turn over is abysmal. -Commercial Delivery Drivers used company vehicles, often brand new or like new, to make deliveries. The vehicles stayed at the store when not in use. If any damage occurred to the vehicles, the driver would be drug tested, but generally would not have to pay for repairs. If involved in an auto accident, whether at fault or not, that resulted in a worker's compensation claim, when a settlement is reached between the Worker's Comp. insurance company (Travelers Direct) and the employee/their attorney, the employee must tender their resignation as part of the settlement. Travelers Direct work comp insurance adjusters, like many in the field, are not on the employee's side and make things harder on the employee. They do not like to pay for lost wages, even when the injury is verified by multiple doctors.

Pros

The competitive pay. Thats about it

Cons

The whole guarantee system. Management, equipment. To anyone who decides to go to pepboys as a flat rate tech, they changed the guarantee system to where if you're not efficient, you only get what you flagged. So if management is bad, the location is bad and its slow, it gets rough. Prior it was a guaranteed pay based on you hitting 40 hours. Their excuse was people "abusing" which is really backwards thinking. If you're starting out, I recommend Firestone. The pay might be slightly worse but you'll have a guarantee of at least 30 hours. Also management at my location seems content only doing tires and flat repairs that hit budget. All while I have to come to them to see if my ticket got sold or if the fleet company approved of the work.
