Medallia Response
9yThanks for your feedback. It has sparked a real conversation, especially in the engineering department. I just received the following message from one of our engineering leaders:
“There's been a lot of discussion in Engineering lately on Glassdoor feedback, and the dialogue is good. We are learning more as leaders about how our engineers perceive us and the company. These discussions are making us better.”
Let me address your specific points. In terms of diversity, we value all individuals at Medallia, regardless of background. That’s not a SJW agenda, that’s one of our core values since the very beginning: “value others” including others’ contributions, potential, and humanity. Medallians care deeply about other people, not as members of any particular group, but as human beings. Each Medallian’s contributions are the foundation of what we are building here – a world in which companies are loved by their customers and their employees.
Your implication that we hang onto people from underrepresented groups even if they underperform is anathema to me. As a woman, I never want anyone to assume my seat at the table is there for any reason other than my own merit – not for gender diversity, not for age diversity, not for any diversity. Nothing tanks true heterogeneity faster than applying different yardsticks to different groups of people. We will never hold onto people because of diversity window-dressing, period.
In terms of the manager to engineer ratio, we have strategically recruited leaders in key product and engineering areas. With this foundation now in place, we will make many new staff additions in both of these teams.
If you have additional ideas, I encourage you to reach out directly to me, or if you are not comfortable with this, to the People and Culture team. We look forward to working with you to make Medallia the most rewarding experience possible.
